Evi Papamichael, the Head of Delegation for Cyprus at the Eurovision Song Contest, is set to retire following this year’s contest after 35 years of involvement in the contest.
After 35 years of being linked with the Eurovision Song Contest, Evi Papamichael is set to retire from the Cypriot broadcaster CyBC. Evi’s involvement with the Eurovision Song Contest started in 1991 when she first commentated on the Eurovision Song Contest for CyBC, a role she would continue up to the 2006 contest in Athens, Greece.
For the past 19 years, Evi Papamichael has been the Head of Delegation for Cyprus at the Eurovision Song Contest. During this time she saw the highs and lows of the country in the contest, from coming second in 2018, represented by Eleni Foureira, to the broadcaster withdrawing in 2014 due to financial pressures.
Ms Papamichael was presented a gift yesterday from the European Broadcasting Union to celebrate her contribution to the contest.
Cyprus will be represented this year by Antigoni and “Jalla”, performing 8th in the second semi-final on May 14. You can find more about Antigoni below:

Cyprus debuted in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1981. Their best result was in 2018, when Eleni Foureira and the song “Fuego” finished second with 436 points. Before then, their best results in the contest came in the form of three fifth-place finishes. These fifth-place finishes were Anna Vissi with “Mono i agapi” in 1982, Hara & Andreas Constantinou with “Mana mou” in 1997 and Lisa Andreas with “Stronger Every Minute” in 2004. Cyprus currently holds the record for the most participations in Eurovision without a win.
