RTV Slovenija has confirmed it will not broadcast this year’s Eurovision Song Contest 2026, choosing instead to replace it with a thematic programme titled “Voices of Palestine.”
From May 10 to 20, viewers will be offered a curated selection of films, documentaries, and discussion programmes highlighting Palestinian stories, as well as the wider context of ongoing development in the Middle East. The programming aims to present a range of perspectives, from personal experiences to broader social and political themes, and encourages reflection on key topics of the modern world.

- Wednesday, May 13 (TV SLO 1) – “The Voice of Hind Rajab” (film)
- Thursday, May 14 (TV SLO 1) – “Dosje” (documentary series – Eurovision-focused episode)
- Saturday, May 16 (TV SLO 1) – “Coexistence, What More!” (documentary)
- Wednesday, May 20 (TV SLO 1) – “The Teacher” (film)
On May 14, a special episode of “Dosje” will focus on the current debate surrounding the Eurovision Song Contest. Written by Boštjan Anžin and Barbara Vidmajer, the episode will explore topics suh as the role of politics in the contest, ethical dilemmas for participating broadcasters, discussions around the voting system, and different viewpoints—from supporters to opponents of the boycott.
RTV Slovenija is among five broadcasters that decided not to take part in this year’s contest. Following decisions taken at the EBU General Assembly in December, the broadcaster concluded that the proposed changes surrounding Israel’s participation were insufficient, leading them to withdraw completely.
According to RTV Slovenija, the “Voices of Palestine” week reflects its public service role, aiming to provide informative and balanced content that supports understanding, dialogue, and critical engagement with current global issues.

Slovenia was one of three countries to join the Eurovision Song Contest in 1993. The country qualified through a specially organised selection round called “Kvalifikacija za Millstreet” which was hosted in Slovenia, seven countries competed for three spots in Eurovision 1993. The country has participated in 22 editions of the Eurovision Song Contest. Their best result came in 1995 when Darja Švajger finished 7th scoring a total of 84 points. She is closely followed by Nuša Derenda who finished 7th in the 2001 contest with 70 points.
