DR, the Danish national broadcaster, has announced that Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2027 will take place in Kolding on February 13.
Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2027 will be held on February 13 in the Sydbank Arena in Kolding. MGP, the children’s version of Dansk Melodi Grand Prix, will be held in the same venue on February 20. Kolding is located in southern Denmark and is the eighth largest city in the country. The city officially became the host city of Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2027 at a ceremony held in Koldinghus Castle, the last royal castle in Jutland.
Erik Struve Hansen, Head of Dansk Melodi Grand Prix at DR, stated:
“Kolding shows an exemplary commitment and a desire to organise the Dansk Melodi Grand Prix tradition together. It means a lot to us at DR when a city not only provides the framework, but also wants to create a vibrant, local ownership around both the Danish Melodi Grand Prix and MGP. We look forward to a close and creative collaboration, and to a music festival that brings all of Denmark together.”
Camilla Olsen, producer for MGP, added:
“For many children, MGP is the biggest music experience of the year, and for the participants, it is a huge moment to be on stage for the first time. Every year, we work to create a safe, professional and magical setting for MGP, so that both the participants, the audience in the venue and the viewers at home in the living rooms can feel the MGP rush all the way down in their bones. Therefore, we are also very much looking forward to bringing MGP to Kolding in 2027 and to letting the city be the setting for the children’s very special music evening.”
Mayor Jakob Ville, Mayor of Kolding Municipality, continued:
“Becoming the host city of Dansk Melodi Grand Prix is a huge recognition and something we are very proud of. Music can do something very special: It creates community, joy and presence. These are values that we in Kolding Municipality stand up for. This is an event that we will organise together with citizens, associations, institutions and the business community.”
A number of events will be organised in Kolding in the run up to both contests. Details of these events will be announced at a later stage.
Søren Torpegaard Lund won Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2026 and will represent Denmark at the Eurovision Song Contest 2026 with “Før vi går hjem” (Before we go home). He will perform in the second half of the second semi-final of May 14.
