The seventh artist in our Who Is series for the Eurovision Song Contest 2026 is Antigoni from Cyprus.
Antigoni Buxton, better known simply as Antigoni, was born on March 9, 1996 in London in the United Kingdom to Greek Cypriot parents. In 2022, she competed in the eighth season of the British reality show Love Island.
Antigoni released her first single “2 Steps” in 2019. After releasing some more singles, she released her first EP “A1” in 2020. Her second and most recent EP “Hexagon” was released in 2023.
Antigoni was internally selected to represent Cyprus in the Eurovision Song Contest 2026. She was the first artist to be revealed for this year’s contest.
The song that Antigoni will perform in Vienna is called “Jalla” (More). It was written and composed by Charalambous Kallona, Connor Mullally-Knight, Demetris Nikolaou, Klejdi Lupa, Paris Kalpos, Trey Qua and Antigoni herself. “Jalla” is the first Eurovision entry to include lyrics in Cypriot Greek.
Antigoni will perform in the second half of the second semi-final on May 14.
Cyprus debuted in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1981. Their best result was in 2018, when Eleni Foureira and the song “Fuego” finished second with 436 points. Before then, their best results in the contest came in the form of three fifth-place finishes. These fifth-place finishes were Anna Vissi with “Mono i agapi” in 1982, Hara & Andreas Constantinou with “Mana mou” in 1997 and Lisa Andreas with “Stronger Every Minute” in 2004. Cyprus currently holds the record for the most participations in Eurovision without a win.
