Montenegro is one of the 18 competing countries at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2025 in Tbilisi this coming Saturday. Their artist Asja Džogović will perform “I tužna i srećna priča” in slot number 11 during the show.
Marsa 2014
Montenegro’s first appearance in the contest actually came in 2005 when they competed as part of Serbia and Montenegro. When the two nations became independent in 2006, they were now eligible to compete individually. While Serbia used this right immediately in 2006, Montenegro waited almost a decade before doing so.
In July 2014, it was announced that Montenegro were finally set to make a debut, with Maša Vujadinović and Lejla Vulić being internally selected with the entry “Budi dijete na jedan dan“, performed in both Montenegrin and English.
Sadly, Montenegro could only manage 14th in their debut from a field of 16, only collecting points from Serbia, Ukraine and Malta, that year’s host country.
Sofia 2015
Though starting with a disappointing result, Montenegro remained committed to the contest and returned the following year. Once more, they opted for an internal selection. This time, Jana Mirković was the lucky entrant with the song “Oluja”. This time, Montenegro performed entirely in their native language.
They were sadly only able to do marginally better than their first attempt, finishing in 13th place. This time however, they did secure 8 points in the voting both from North Macedonia and Serbia.
Sadly, with a second disappointing result, Montenegro did not choose to return for a third year in 2016. While remaining out of the contest, they sparked early rumours of a return last year. They instead opted to wait one more year until this week, when they will compete for the first time in a decade.
Junior Eurovision 2025
Junior Eurovision 2025 will be held on December 13 in Tbilisi after Andria Putkaradze gave Georgia their record-breaking fourth victory with “To My Mom”. The contest will be held at the Olympic Palace, which previously hosted the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in 2017.
