The twenty-eighth artist featured in our Who Is series for the Eurovision Song Contest 2025 is ADONXS from Czechia.

Adam Pavlovčin, professionally known as ADONXS, was born in Myjava, Slovakia. His early interest in music and dance was sparked by his older sister, leading him to join a junior dance crew, take singing lessons, and learn piano. However, a significant voice change during puberty caused him to pause his singing and concentrate on dance instead.

ADONXS achieved notable success as a dancer, winning the Slovak Championship in IDO street dance disciplines five times across both junior and adult categories. At the age of fifteen, he moved to Bratislava and began studying acting at the New Scene theater. It was during this time that he began to model as well.

Eventually, Adonxs rediscovered his vocal talents and passion for singing. He later moved to London, where he completed a degree in Songwriting and Creative Musicianship at the British and Irish Modern Music Institute. During this period, he wrote his debut song, “Speechless Boy,” which he used to publicly come out via a self-produced music video.

In 2021, Adonxs achieved national fame as the first openly queer champion of SuperStar, the Czech-Slovak edition of Idol. He became known for his expressive performances and gender-nonconforming outfits.

In 2022, Adonxs embarked on a solo career, adopting a name inspired by the mythological figure Adonis, which symbolizes beauty, ambiguity, and empowerment. His debut single “Moving On” topped the SK Top 50 Chart, marking the beginning of an exciting new chapter in his music. Subsequent singles like “Game” and “Cold Summer” solidified his reputation as a dynamic and genre-defying artist. His debut album, Age of Adonxs, released in late 2022, garnered critical acclaim and was named Slovakia’s best album of the year by Musicserver.

His music has won him multiple awards and festival appearances, including a performance at the prestigious Sziget Festival in Budapest. In 2023, he received two Evropa 2 Music Awards and several nominations at the Ruka Hore Awards and Berlin Music Video Awards.

Adonxs is set to represent the Czech Republic at the Eurovision Song Contest 2025 in Basel, Switzerland.

Czechia first competed in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2007. They achieved their best result at the contest with Mikolas Josef coming 6th in Lisbon 2018 with the song “Lie to Me”. Gabriela Gunčíková took Czechia to their first final in 2016. This came after a three year run of non-qualifications between 2007 and 2009, and missing out on a place in the final on their return in 2015. Until 2023, the nation took part under the name Czech Republic.
