Jean-Marc Richard is set to step away as a commentator for RTS at the Eurovision Song Contest after over thirty years covering the contest.
In an interview with blue News, Jean-Marc Richard has announced that the Eurovision Song Contest 2025 will be the final edition of the competition which he will commentate on. Jean-Marc is the most experienced commentator at the contest having first held the role for RTS at Eurovision in 1993, with 2025 marking his twenty-eighth competition.
Reflecting on the change in Switzerland’s results over the time he has commentated on the contest, he explained:
“A few years ago, no one wanted to commentate on this competition. Among my colleagues, I offered it to people, but no one wanted to. Today everyone wants to do it, I think it’s really good. It means we’ve managed to create something.”
RTS is one of three broadcasters in Switzerland which broadcasts the Eurovision Song Contest and is part of SRG SSR. RTS is the French language broadcaster, SRF the German language and RSI the Italian language broadcaster.
Eurovision 2025
Switzerland earned the honor of hosting Eurovision 2025 after the Swiss artist Nemo triumphed at the 2024 contest with their song “The Code.” The entry scored an impressive 591 points, with 365 from the jury and 226 from the televote, securing Switzerland’s first victory since 1988.
The 69th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest will take place in Basel on May 13, 15, and 17, 2025.

Switzerland hosted the first Eurovision Song Contest in 1956 in Lugano, a contest that they also won. Lys Assia won the first contest with the song “Refrain”. It wasn’t until 1988 that Switzerland would win the contest again. Celine Dion won with “Ne partez pas sans moi” in Dublin, she beat the United Kingdom to victory by just 1 point. Switzerland won for a third time in 2024 represented by Nemo with “The Code”.
