Voxovation has set a deadline of the end of March for details of Eurovision Latin America to be defined.
Omar Retamal, representative of Voxovation explained to Produ that the driving reason for the contest was an analysis of interest in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2022. At that time it was observed that Argentina, Brazil, Chile and Mexico were among the largest markets for Eurovision without a competing entry in the contest.
Mr Retamal confirmed to Produ that March 31 is the deadline to define the project. As a result, it can be expected that an announcement regarding Eurovision Latin America could be made at the 69th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest in Basel, Switzerland this May.
In addition, when speaking to Publicmetro the representative of Voxovation explained that:
If Chile is chosen as host country, the Grand Final would tentatively take place in October.
Selections to determine each of the participating countries representatives would be scheduled to take place between August and September. It has been confirmed that 10 countries have signed up to compete in the contest, with producers aiming for 15 countries in the first edition.
Furthermore, it is expected that the contest will not only be aired live in Latin America but also in Europe both on television and on digital platforms.
Eurovision Latin America was first announced in July 2022, with the contest being produced by Voxovation’s Christer Björkman, Anders Lenhoff, Ola Melzig, Peter Settman and Greg Lipstone, the producers of American Song Contest and Eurovision Song Contest Canada. The most recent reports suggest the contest’s first edition will be held in October 2025.
Eurovision Song Contest Latin America was the third new version of the Eurovision Song Contest announced since 2019, but the first to cover multiple nations. Voxovation is currently proposing the following formats:
- American Song Contest – Find out more here.
