45 submissions have been received for the 2025 edition of Sámi Grand Prix.
Ol Johan Gaup the Producer of Sámi Grand Prix has confirmed that a total of 45 submissions were received for Sámi Grand Prix 2025. Of the 45 submissions, 15 were received for the Joik contest and 30 for the Song Contest.
Submissions have been received from across large areas of Sápmi, with entries submitted from Norway, Sweden and Finland. The experience of the applicants is mixed, with past participants through to those who have not performed on stage before.
Sámi Grand Prix 2025 will be held on April 12, with the contest not being held on Easter weekend for the first time. In addition, the 2025 contest will be broadcast on Finnish TV for the first time.
What is Sámi Grand Prix?
Sámi Grand Prix has been held annually since 1990 as part of the Sámi Easter Festival in Kautokeino in Norway.
The winner of the Sámi Grand Prix 2024 will be awarded 20,000 NOK, while second place will receive 10,000 NOK. The winners in each category will be offered a scholarship worth 50,000 NOK and the opportunity to hold a concert at the Sami Easter Festival.
The region of Sápmi covers northern Norway, Sweden, Finland and Russia, and has a population of between 80-100,000 Sámi. To date the most successful nation in the contest is Norway.
