Ahead of this year’s Junior Eurovision Song Contest, we had the chance to speak to Ukraine’s representative Artem Kotenko.
We spoke to Artem earlier this week about his feelings a few days away from the contest, how not getting selected in 2023 made him improve himself and his hometown of Okhtyrka. Watch the interview in full below:
Artem Kotenko was born in 2012, hailing from Okhtyrka in Sumy Oblast, near Kharkiv. Kotenko won the right to represent Ukraine at JESC in Madrid this year after winning their national selection. However, the result was a tense one – after finishing in a tie with fellow contestant Zlata Ivaniv, Kotenko won a tiebreaker after receiving more votes from the public.
Junior Eurovision 2024
The 2024 edition of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest will take place in Madrid, following their second-place finish at the 2023 contest. The final will take place at the Caja Mágica on November 16, bringing the contest back to a Saturday for the first time since 2015. The winner, France, declined the hosting responsibility after hosting the 2023 edition in Nice.

Ukraine debuted in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in 2006 and has competed in the contest ever since. To date, Ukraine has only won the competition once. In 2012, Anastasiya Petryk won in Amsterdam with the song “Nebo”. She scored 138 points including eight sets of 12 points. Ukraine has hosted the contest twice, the first time being in 2009 and the second being in 2013 following their victory in Amsterdam. Ukraine in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest
