🇸🇲 San Marino: “We All Love Music, K-Pop and Our Country!” – An Interview With Idols SM

Ahead of this year’s Junior Eurovision Song Contest, we had the chance to speak to San Martino’s representatives Idols SM.

San Marino is returning to the Junior Eurovision Song Contest after nearly ten years, with Idols SM flying the flag in Madrid. We spoke to them ahead of the contest in Madrid about; the inspiration behind their name, Miodio’s advice and where they would take the other participants in San Marino.

It’s not long to go until Junior Eurovision, how have the past weeks been since you were announced as taking part?

We have been working a lot with our singing teacher and our choreographer. But we also enjoyed the mood in San Marino around our participation, we’ve also been invited by our State Secretary for Tourism.

Idols SM is the name of your group, how did your group come about and what’s is it like performing with your friends?

Asia: I invented it, I took inspiration from the K-Pop music and SM stays for San Marino. We decided to participate together as a group because we all love music, K-Pop and our country!

How did you all feel when you found out you would represent San Marino in Madrid?

We were very excited and proud to represent our country. Who could ever believe that one day we would have taken part in the Junior Eurovision?!

Idols SM is inspired by your love for K-Pop. Are there any K-Pop artists in particular who inspire you?

We love many of them but our dearest are the Stray Kids!

Your song was written by Miodio, who were the first people to ever represent San Marino at Eurovision. Have they given you any advice for the contest?

They have been so lovely and supportive. Yes, they are really experts of Eurovision and their first suggestion was to enjoy and be ourselves.

What has been the best experience you have had so far and what are you most looking forward to at Junior Eurovision?

Vera: I have already taken part in a couple of contests. What to do after? Who knows? Maybe a second participation 😁😁?

Time for some fun questions, if you had the chance, what other song from this year’s Junior Eurovision would you sing, apart from your own and would you sing it in a different genre?

Cyprus and Spain

Finally, If you could bring the other singers to San Marino, where would you take them to and what would you do for a day?

We are the oldest republic in the world and we are the last existing city state in the world. Visiting San Marino is like entering into history. We have a lot of nice places to visit: our Parliament, Palazzo Pubblico, heart and center of our democracy; our three watch towers and all the city center which has been declared Unesco World Heritage since some years now.

Junior Eurovision 2024

The 2024 edition of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest will take place in Madrid, following their second-place finish at the 2023 contest. The final will take place at the Caja Mágica on November 16, bringing the contest back to a Saturday for the first time since 2015. The winner, France, declined the hosting responsibility after hosting the 2023 edition in Nice.
