The final of Cân i Gymru 2025 is set to take place on February 28, 2025.
S4C has confirmed that the 2025 edition of Cân i Gymru will be held on February 28. The announcement comes after S4C was found to have breached Ofcom rules due to televoting issues during the 2024 final.
During the 2024 final viewers were found to have voted multiple times due to a technical fault in the voting system, which viewers were not made aware of. S4C has insisted that the results of the contest were not affected by the voting issues.
S4C has committed to making more information available to voters during the 2025 final and will offer more than one voting method next year. S4C is expected to open the song submission window for the contest soon.
Cân i Gymru has been held since 1969 and has taken place every year since excluding 1973. Sara Davies won the 2024 contest with “Ti” and represented Wales at the Pan Celtic Song Contest 2024 where Wales took victory.
What is the Pan Celtic Song Contest?
The Pan Celtic Song Contest has been held annually since 1971 and is part of the Pan Celtic Festival. The aim of the contest is to promote modern Celtic languages and cultures from the six Celtic nations of:
- Brittany
- Cornwall
- Ireland
- Isle of Man
- Scotland
- Wales
Wales is the most successful nation at the competition having won the event a total of 15 times. In contrast, the Isle of Man has won the event only once in 2014.
