Merlijn Dewasme has had to leave two of his bandmates out of his performance for the Regio Songfestival 2024.
Merlijn Dewasme is representing Overijssel at the Regio Songfestival 2024, he performs alongside five friends traditionally, however for the contest he has to leave two bandmates off stage. Regio Songfestival rules only allow a maximum of four people on stage, speaking to RTV Oost he explained:
“It was not a voluntary decision, but I will go on stage with guitarist Luuk Hoogeveen and backing singers Julia Cremers and Loes Koedoot. Drummer Timo Stevens and bassist Christiaan Fröhlich are unfortunately not allowed further than the wings.”
Merlijn also discussed the release of his competing entry “Adem” which has yet to be released on streaming platforms unlike many of the other competing acts. The young singer added:
“The plan was to release the song on November 8, the day before the final. And that is what we are doing, we are standing firm. I have my own plan and I think this plan will work even better. We are building all the momentum towards that date.”
Regio Songfestival 2024
Theater aan het Vrijthof in Maastricht will be the venue for the second edition of the Regio Songfestival on November 9. The Province of Limburg is hosting the contest having won the first edition last year in Utrecht.

- Brabant – Dominique de Bont – “Wie we waren”
- Limburg – Maxime x Glyn – “Oceaan”
- Noord-Holland – Renee Rose – “Meisje met een droom”
- Friesland – Fegebart – “Bingojûn”
- Flevoland – Sanne-Maaike Oudshoorn – “Wil ik anders”
- Gelderland – Emma Luca – “Illusie”
- Rijnmond – Braidy – “Banaan”
- Groningen – Trap Aan! – “Ien de keet”
The competition is styled on the Eurovision Song Contest, RTV Utrecht hosted the first edition. Songs are performed in Dutch or the language of their region. The Regio Song Contest is organised by all thirteen regional broadcasters and is made possible by Buma Cultuur, AVROTROS and K.F Hein Fonds.
