Today: 🇸🇪 Melodifestivalen 2025 Song Submissions Open

The search for Sweden’s entry in the Eurovision Song Contest 2025 commences today with the opening of the song submissions window.

The song submission window for Melodifestivalen 2025 will opens today at 09:00 CET. The song submission window will remain open until 11:59 CET on September 13. Applications will only be accepted through the website bidrag.melodifestivalen.se.

Changes to the format of Melodifestivalen were announced by the Swedish broadcaster SVT yesterday. The competition will be formed of five Semi-Finals and a Grand Final. As in previous years, the two songs that receive the highest number of points in each Semi-Final will qualify for the final directly, filling 10 places out of 12.

The last two spots are reserved only for third-place entries. In particular, the highest scoring third-place song, out of all 5 of the Semi-Final third-placers, will pass automatically to the final.  This will be announced live at the end of the 5th semi-final, with all the artists in the arena.

Once this announcement is made, the viewers at home will have the chance to vote on the 4 remaining third-place songs. The entry that receives the highest number of points will receive the last spot in the Melodifestivalen final. Melodifestivalen has been held annually since 1959, except for 1964 and 1976, when Sweden did not compete in Eurovision.

Marcus & Martinus represented Sweden at the Eurovision Song Contest 2024 in Malmö with the song “Unforgettable”. They placed 9th in the Grand Final receiving a total of 174 points, including 12 points from the German jury.
