🇦🇺 Australia: SBS Rules Out ABU TV Song Festival 2024 Participation

SBS has confirmed to Eurovoix World that it will not be participating in the ABU TV Song Festival 2024.

The Australian broadcaster SBS has confirmed that it will not be returning to the ABU TV Song Festival this year in Istanbul, Turkey. SBS previously participated in the ABU TV Song Festival between 2012 and 2014, sending Havana Brown, Justice Crew and Dami Im to events across Asia.

Australia last participated in the event in 2019 when ABC took part in the TV Song Festival in Tokyo, Japan represented by Dan Sultan.

To date, the following broadcasters have commented on the 2024 event:

  • Australia – SBS rules out participation, ABC no comment to date
  • Singapore – Will not participate

ABU TV Song Festival 2024

The 13th edition of the ABU TV Song Festival will take place this October in Istanbul, Türkiye hosted by the Turkish public broadcaster TRT. This will be the second time that Istanbul has hosted the event, the first time being in 2015.

The festival is set to be held at the Istanbul Lütfi Kırdar International Convention and Exhibition Center in the Anadolu Auditorium. Up to 2,000 guests will be able to watch the contest live, the event will be broadcast from 17:00 to 19:00 CET.

The ABU TV Song Festival was held for the first time in 2012 and is a non-competitive showcase from across the Asia-Pacific region.
