NRK has recorded its lowest audience for a Eurovision Song Contest Grand Final since 2007.

The Norwegian broadcaster has recorded its lowest audience for a Eurovision Song Contest in seventeen years. An average of 884,000 viewers followed the final live from Sweden, a drop of 192,000 viewers from the 2023 contest in Liverpool.

Head of Delegation Stig Karlsen, stated to Kampanje that:

“It is reasonable to believe that all the negative publicity may have affected the viewing figures, but we currently do not have any figures to confirm this.”

Across the course of the night, 1.4 million people watched part of the broadcast, with a peak of 950,000 viewers during the Norwegian entry.

Kampanje and NRK point out that TV audience measurement has changed between 2007 and 2024, meaning figures are not entirely comparable. However, NRK agrees that this is the lowest figure it has recorded since a new measurement system in 2018.

Gåte represented Norway at the Eurovision Song Contest 2024 in Sweden. With the song “Ulveham” they finished last in the Grand Final scoring 25 points. This was the twelfth time Norway has placed last in a Eurovision Grand Final.

Norway debuted in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1960 and have won the contest three times – in 1985, 1995 and 2009. The country has the dubious record of finishing last the most times, eleven in total, and have received nul points four times. Norway last won the contest in 2009 when Alexander Rybak broke all records with his song “Fairytale”. He scored 387 points in the final, receiving 16 sets of 12 points and scoring points from every country.
