ERR intends to participate in next year’s edition of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest.
Ahead of their debut at the contest on Sunday, Estonian Head of Delegation, Laura Kõrvits, has discussed the potential of introducing a new way to select their Junior Eurovision entrants in the future. Laura currently produces a biannual children’s singing competition for ERR called “Tähtede Lava”, which is very popular in Estonia. The idea is to give the winner of the show the ticket to represent Estonia at the next Junior Eurovision Song Contest.
“We thought about what would be the biggest prize for winning this competition, and we thought that Junior Eurovision would be the best thing. We plan to change the format of this singing competition, it would be great if the winner would get to represent Estonia in Junior Eurovision.”
This year’s Estonian representative, Arhanna, was internally selected by ERR, but won Tähtede Lava in 2019 and was the jury winner in 2020.
While it’s not officially confirmed at this moment due to funding, it confirms the broadcaster’s intentions of using the show as a way of selecting their 2024 representative. The next edition of Tähtede Lava will take place in spring 2024.
Junior Eurovision 2023
Junior Eurovision 2023 will be held at the Palais Nikaïa in Nice with the final to air on Sunday 26 November at 16:00 CET.
Estonia is debuting in the contest, while Germany is returning to the JESC fold after one year away. As a result, the “Big Five” (France, Germany, Italy, Spain and the United Kingdom) will all be competing in Junior Eurovision for the very first time.
