The penultimate artists in our Who Is series for the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2023 are Yan Girls from Armenia.
Yan Girls is a group consisting of Nane (11 years old), Nensi (11), Kamilla (11), Syuzana (10), and Aida (9). The group is styled on K-pop artists but with an Armenian flare.
When the open call for participants was made by Armenian broadcaster AMPTV, the girls (whose mothers were friends and introduced them to one another) decided to create the group. At the auditions, they performed “Revolting Children” from Matilda and “Bang-Bang”.
They were later recalled for a second round of auditions that were filmed. With their mothers sitting in the waiting room, they were then told that they’d represent Armenia at this year’s Junior Eurovision Song Contest.
The song they will sing in Nice, “Do It My Way”, was composed by tokionine, with lyrics by Vahram Petrosyan and Maléna. Maléna won the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2021 in Paris, France for Armenia, while tokionine was behind her winning song “Qami Qami”.

Armenia debuted in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in 2007, and have had 14 entries to date. The country is one of the most successful in the history of the contest, placing in the top 3 on 8 occasions, and winning twice in 2010 and 2021. Their first victory came from Vladimir Arzumanyan with his song “Mama”, which received 120 points. They won again in 2021 with “Qami Qami” by Maléna. Armenia went on to host the contest on home soil in Yerevan in 2011 and hosted again in 2022. Their debut was almost as successful, as Arevik and their song “Erazanq” was just 1 point off the winning score.
