The submissions window for the Sámi Grand Prix 2024 has opened this week with entries being accepted until December 1.
NRK has announced the opening of the submissions window for the Sámi Grand Prix 2024, the 34th edition of the competition. Sámi Grand Prix has been held annually since 1990 as part of the Sámi Easter Festival in Kautokeino in Norway.
The show has two contests, one for new songs and one for joikers. The contest is organised by NRK Sápmi, which produces content for Sámi-language speakers. There are two submission windows currently open, one for performers with a song, and one for songs without performers. Songs without a performer must be submitted by November 1, songs with a performer can be submitted until December 1.
The winner of the Sámi Grand Prix 2024 will be awarded 20,000 NOK, while second place will receive 10,000 NOK. The winners in each category will be offered a scholarship worth 50,000 NOK and the opportunity to hold a concert at the Sami Easter Festival.
The region of Sápmi covers northern Norway, Sweden, Finland and Russia, and has a population of between 80-100,000 Sámi. To date the most successful nation in the contest in Norway.
