The song submissions window for the Malta Eurovision Song Contest 2024 will close at midnight tonight.

PBS will close song submissions for the Malta Eurovision Song Contest 2024 today, as Malta looks for its entry for Malmö. Full rules for those wishing to compete can be found here. Once song submissions close, the submissions will be reviewed before certain artists are invited to compete in MESC.

The successful artists will perform their song “during a televised show spread out over a number of weeks” to attempt to qualify for the Grand Final. 12 songs will reach the final stage, and the winning acts will be picked by a combination of jury voting and a public televote.

In the final, however, the competing artists will not perform their songs live. Instead, they will be invited to record a live-on-tape version of their entry in December 2023, where they will have three takes and a 60-minute window to get the best possible performance.

Additionally, each of the 12 finalists will receive a grant of €5,000 to make a music video, which will also air on the night of the grand final.

Once each acts live-on-tape performance and music video have aired, a jury vote and public vote will be combined to determine the winner and the song that will represent Malta at the Eurovision Song Contest 2024 in Malmö, Sweden.

The winner of MESC 2024 will follow in the footsteps of The Busker, who won the 2023 edition of the contest with “Dance (Our Own Party”. Malta performed in the First Semi-Final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2023 in Liverpool, United Kingdom, coming 15th out of 15 acts on the night after scoring only three points overall.
