Norwegian broadcaster NRK is closing its submissions window for Melodi Grand Prix 2024 in a matter of hours.
The submissions window for the Norwegian selection for Eurovision 2024 closes today at 23:59 CET. This year’s selection has seen a change in the rules allowing anybody entering a song can release their music before the competition begins. Previously songs could not be released ahead of the contest, with songs being released on the week of each show.
NRK say that the new rules will “increase commitment to new Norwegian music and to MGP before the season kicks off.” Not only that, the broadcaster is hoping that this will lead fans to “put pressure” on artists – and MGP’s editors – to pick specific songs and acts for the competition. The full list of entrants in Melod Grand Prix 2024 will be announced in January.

Alessandra won Melodi Grand Prix 2023 with “Queen of Kings”. She went on to finish in 5th place for Norway at the Eurovision Song Contest 2023 in Liverpool, United Kingdom, scoring 268 points – 216 of which came from the public vote.
