The first edition of Pan-ArcticVision was held last night in Norway, with Greenland taking victory ahead of nine other Nordic states and regions.
Vadsø, Norway played host to the first edition of the Pan-ArcticVision last night, with acts from nine regions competing in the contest. The winner of the event was chosen through online voting, with the show being broadcast live across the Arctic.
Nuija from Greenland was named the winner of the contest, receiving the highest number of points across the nine voting regions. Regions were able to vote for themselves.
The results were as follows:
- Greenland – Nuija
- Faroe Islands – Guðrið Hánsdottir
- Alaska – Byron Nicholai
- Northern Norway – Sköll
- Sápmi / Troms – MÁ
- Russian Arctic Exile – Katia Gilman
- Yukon – The Sweeties
- Sápmi / Northern Finland – Áilu&Aleksi
- Akureyri – Drengurinn Fengurinn

PanArcticVision 2023 was hosted by NORDTING in close cooperation with Varangerfestivalen. Supported by Norwegian Arts council, Nordic Culture Fund, Nordic Culture Point. This was the first edition of the event, with Greenland as winners set to host the next edition of the competition.
The contest was created and Directed by Amund Sjølie Sveen, the idea for the competition is based on the Eurovision Song Contest. He told High North News that:
“We are doing this because it is important to build community in the Arctic – across the nation states that we are usually so oriented within,”
The artists that were selected to compete in the competition were chosen through a range of selection processes, with local cultural institutions inviting singers to apply to compete.
