2.75 million viewers in Sweden saw the final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2023 which saw Loreen win the contest for the second time.
2.32 million viewers in Sweden watched the final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2023 live from Liverpool on SVT1, which saw Loreen win a historic second victory with her song “Tattoo”. The TV viewing numbers were a small drop on the 2022 viewing figures which saw 2.38 million viewers. In addition to TV viewers, 369,000 viewers also viewed the show online via SVT Play, an increase compared to last year’s online numbers of over 100,000 viewers.
Earlier in the week 1,305,000 viewers in Sweden saw Loreen make it to the final in the opening semi-final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2023. Loreen won the 2023 Eurovision Song Contest in Liverpool, making her the second person to win the contest two times.
Who is Loreen?
Lorine Zineb Nora Talhaoui, better known as Loreen, was born on October 16 1983 in Stockholm to Moroccan Berber parents. Early in her life, she moved to Västerås in central Sweden and grew up there.
In 2012, Loreen competed in Melodifestivalen with “Euphoria”. She qualified directly to the final and eventually won, earning the right to represent Sweden at Eurovision 2012. She went on to win Eurovision 2012 as well, giving Sweden their fifth win overall and first win since 1999. “Euphoria” broke the record for the most sets of 12 points received under the old voting system, with 18 sets.
Loreen was selected to represent Sweden at Eurovision 2023 after winning Melodifestivalen 2023. She received the highest score from the international juries and public vote.
The song that Loreen performed in Liverpool was called “Tattoo”. It was written and composed by Jimmy “Joker” Thörnfeldt, Jimmy Jansson, Cazzi Opeia, Peter Boström, Thomas G:son and Loreen herself. Cazzi Opeia wrote “Wonderland”, the winning entry of the American Song Contest 2022. Peter Boström and Thomas G:son co-wrote “Euphoria”. Loreen won the 2023 Contest and became the second person to win the contest twice and the first woman to win more than once. Loreen has since broken the record for the most streamed Eurovision song on Spotify in 24 hours with her Eurovision 2023 winning entry “Tattoo”.

Sweden in the Eurovision Song Contest
Sweden debuted in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1958 and has gone on to be one of the contest’s most successful countries. The country has won the contest seven times, the most recent being in 2023. They are tied with Ireland for the most wins in Eurovision history. Sweden’s first victory came in 1974 when ABBA won the contest in Brighton with “Waterloo”. Since missing out on the final in 2010, Sweden has gone on to finish 3rd twice and has won the contest twice. Only in 2013 and 2021 did the country place outside of the top 10 in the final.
