MRT, the Macedonian national broadcaster, has confirmed their participation in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2023.

MRT confirmed today that North Macedonia will participate in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2023 in Nice. This follows a review by the MRT Program Council, in which the country’s participation in Eurovision and Junior Eurovision was discussed.

The Macedonian entrant for Nice will be selected through an audition. The audition will be held on May 11 at MRT headquarters in Skopje, starting at 10:00 local time. Applications may be made until May 5.

The rules of the auditions are as follows:

  • Applicants must be aged between 9 and 14 on the day of Junior Eurovision 2023.
  • Applicants must be citizens or residents of North Macedonia.
  • Applicants must perform two songs of their own choice at the auditions. It is their responsibility to bring backing tracks.
  • Applications must contain the applicant’s full name, date and place of birth, email address and a phone number for one parent/guardian.
  • Applications can only be submitted to jescmk@mrt.com.mk.

Lara, Jovan and Irina represented North Macedonia at Junior Eurovision 2022 with “ลฝivotot e pred mene”. They finished 14th with 54 points.

Junior Eurovision 2023

France won the 20th Junior Eurovision Song Contest in Yerevan, Armenia with Lissandro and โ€œOh Maman!โ€. He scored a total of 203 points placing ahead of second-placed Armenia.

France will be hosting the Junior Eurovision Song Contest for a second time, having first hosted the contest in 2021 in the French capital of Paris.

North Macedonia in the Eurovision Song Contest

North Macedonia was one of sixteen countries to take part in the first edition of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in 2003. On their debut they were represented by Marija & Viktorija with the song โ€œTi ne me poznavaลกโ€ finishing 12th with 19 points. North Macedoniaโ€™s best result to date is 5th place, which they achieved in 2007 with โ€œDing Ding Dongโ€ by Rosica & Dimitar and in 2008 with โ€œPrati mi SMSโ€ by Bobi Andonov.
