Ten countries will make up the international jury that decides 50% of the vote in the first round of the final of Melodi Grand Prix 2023 on Saturday, 4th February.
Stig Karlsen, Norwegian Head of Delegation has confirmed in a livestream with escNorge that ten countries will make up the international jury of the Norwegian national final. Each jury consists of five music industry professionals. They will give their points first, and rank all songs from 1-9.
The ten countries which will have a say in the results have not been disclosed in the livestream.
When the jury points have been given, the votes from the public will be announced at once, similarly to the Grand Final of the Eurovision Song Contest.
The running order of the Final of the Melodi Grand Prix 2023 is as follows:
- JONE — “Ekko inni meg” (Echo in me)
- Eline Thorp — “Not Meant to Be”
- Skrellex — “Love Again”
- Ulrikke Brandstorp — “Honestly”
- Umami Tsunami — “Geronimo”
- Atle Pettersen — “Masterpiece”
- Swing’it — “Prohibition”
- Elsie Bay — “Love you in a dream”
- Alessandra — “Queen of Kings”
About Melodi Grand Prix 2023
Changes have already been announced to the format of Melodi Grand Prix for the 2023 contest. Pre-qualified artists have been removed, meaning all twenty-one artists must now compete for a spot in the Grand Final.
Also, the number of Semi-Finals has been reduced from five to three, with the Second Chance round also removed for 2023. In addition, the duels format which has been used in recent years has been removed. Instead, all seven artists will perform and a vote will then be held where the top three will progress to the final. Artists may also use Autotune in their performances if they wish.
Further changes have been made for the Grand Final, with the return of the International Jury. The jury has been reintroduced to increase the chances of winning the Eurovision Song Contest. The jury will be formed of music professionals from a number of countries, the members of the jury will be announced following the final. Lastly, there is a change to the public voting, now viewers can only vote for one artist per semi-final.
The winner of Melodi Grand Prix will represent Norway at the Eurovision Song Contest 2023 in Liverpool.

Norway debuted in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1960 and have won the contest three times – in 1985, 1995 and 2009. The country has the dubious record of finishing last the most times, eleven in total, and have received nul points four times. Norway last won the contest in 2009 when Alexander Rybak broke all records with his song “Fairytale”. He scored 387 points in the final, receiving 16 sets of 12 points and scoring points from every country.
