Al Bano will chair the jury that will select the San Marinese representative for the Eurovision Song Contest 2023 in Liverpool.
San Marino RTV has announced that Italian music legend Al Bano will chair the jury for the final of Una voce per San Marino 2023. Al Bano first represented Italy alongside his wife Romina Power in 1976 with “We’ll Live It All Again”, finishing 7th with a total of 69 points. A decade later they competed again in Eurovision 1985 with “Magic Oh Magic” which also finished 7th scoring a total of 78 points.
His last involvement with the Eurovision Song Contest was in 2000 when he performed backing vocals for the Swiss entry “La vita cos’è?”. In recent years he has taken part in The Masked Singer, The Voice Senior and Dancing With The Stars.
In 2022 Al Bano was one of three guest performers during the final of Una voce per San Marino alongside Senhit (2011 and 2021) and Valentina Monetta (2012, 2013, 2014, 2017).
San Marino RTV has also announced that a special show focused on Una voce per San Marino 2023 will be broadcast on January 24 from 20:55 CET.
How will Una voce per San Marino 2023 work?
The Academy and Casting stage will be held between October 28, 2022 and January 27, 2023. At the Casting stage, a jury will select 60 or more artists to progress to the next round of the San Marinese selection
Following the casting stage, a total of five Semi-Finals will be held in February 2023. From the five Semi-Finals, around twenty artists will be chosen by the jury to go through to the Grand Final. There will be four Semi-Final shows, of which one will be for artists from San Marino, the fifth show in the Semi-Final stage will be the second chance round.
The Grand Final will be held on February 25, 2023 in the Teatro Nuovo in Dogana. The winner will be chosen by a five-person jury, two jurors chosen by San Marino RTV, one chosen by Segreteria di Stato and two chosen by the production company.

San Marino debuted in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2008 alongside Azerbaijan. On their debut they were represented by Miodio and the song “Complice”, and finished last in their semi-final with just 5 points. San Marino withdrew from the contest before returning again in 2011. Since then the country has participated annually and in 2014 qualified for their first final. The nation’s worst result came in 2017 when Valentina Monetta represented San Marino for the fourth time alongside Jimmie Wilson with “Spirit of the Night.” The pair finished last in their semi-final with just 1 point.
