Azerbaijani broadcaster Ictimai has invited Eldar Gasimov to join the delegation for Eurovision 2023.
Eurovision 2011 winner Eldar Gasimov has revealed that he has joined the Azeri delegation as their official music producer. The news comes days after Azerbaijan launched its selection process for Eurovision 2023.
Eldar represented Azerbaijan at the 2011 Eurovision Song Contest alongside Nikki. With their song “Running Scared”, they gave Azerbaijan their first and only victory in the contest to date and brought the contest to Baku in 2012. It was there that Eldar also co-hosted the contest.
The selection process to select Azerbaijan’s 2023 Eurovision entrant is well-underway, with Ictimai making an open call for singers and songwriters to apply. Performers and composers can send in their performances, demos or new songs for Eurovision to song@eurovizion.az until December 31.
At the 2022 contest, Nadir Rustamli represented Azerbaijan in Turin with “Fade to Black”, he is the only artist to qualify for the Grand Final scoring 0 points from the televote. In the Grand Final he finished 16th with a total of 106 points, 103 of which were from the jury and 3 from the televote.

Azerbaijan debuted in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2008, they were represented by Elnur & Samir with the song “Day After Day”, they finished 8th in the final. In 2011 Azerbaijan won the Eurovision Song Contest represented by Ell & Nikki and their song “Running Scared”. The song scored a total of 221 points, receiving only three sets of 12 points from Malta, Russia and Turkey. In 2018 Azerbaijan failed to qualify for the final for the first time, having previously had a 100% qualification record.
