SBS has announced that it will internally select the singer and song that will represent Australia at the Eurovision Song Contest 2023.
Australia will be internally selecting its song and singer for the Eurovision Song Contest 2023. SBS had previously used Eurovision: Australia Decides to select its representative for Eurovision, and from 2015 to 2018 had internally selected its participants.
In a statement SBS said:
“We are thrilled to confirm that Australia will once again compete in the 67th Eurovision Song Contest next year, with hosts Myf Warhurst and Joel Creasey at the helm. However, after three years of celebrating and working with local music artists through our Eurovision selection show, Eurovision – Australia Decides, we’ve made the difficult decision not to go ahead with the program in 2023.
Over the past few months, we have been exploring ways we could deliver the event to Australian audiences next year however, a variety of factors contributed to us coming to this decision.
We are proud to continue to be the home of the Eurovision Song Contest and we look forward to celebrating 40 years of broadcasting Eurovision to all Australians in the coming year.”
Sheldon Riley placed 15th in the Grand Final of the Eurovision Song Contest with “Not the Same”. He scored a total of 125 points, of which 123 points were from the jury and 2 points from the televote all from Azerbaijan.

Australia debuted in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2015 as part of celebrations marking 60 years of the Eurovision Song Contest. The broadcaster SBS has broadcast Eurovision in Australia since 1983. Australia’s best result to date came in 2016 Australia when Dami Im, with the song “Sound of Silence,” finished in 2nd place in the final scoring 511 points, just 23 points away from victory.
