RÚV the Icelandic public broadcaster has confirmed to Eurovoix that it will not be competing in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2022.
Iceland will not be making its debut in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest this year in Yerevan, Armenia. Rúnar Freyr Gíslason confirmed to Eurovoix that the broadcaster will not compete this year but will continue to follow the competition.
There had been speculation that Iceland could make its debut in the competition this year having sent a delegation to observe the 2021 contest in Paris, France. A delegation from the broadcaster went backstage to understand the logistics of the behind-the-scenes production of the show.
RÚV broadcast the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2021 on time delay in Iceland, making it only the second contest broadcast in the country since Junior Eurovision commenced in 2003.
Junior Eurovision 2022
The Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2022 will take place in Armenia, following the country’s victory at the 2021 contest in Paris. This is the second time Armenia has won the contest, the first being in 2010. To date, the following countries have confirmed participation or expressed their interest:

- France
- Georgia – Mariam Bigvava
- Ireland
- Italy
- Malta
- Netherlands
- North Macedonia – Lara Trpčeska and Irina Davidovska
- Poland
- Portugal
- Spain
