The Pan Celtic Song Contest is set to return in 2023, after three years of cancellations following the COVID-19 pandemic.
Having last been held in 2019, the Pan Celtic Song Contest is set to return in 2023 in Carlow, Ireland. The international committee behind the Pan Celtic Festival confirmed this week the festival will be held in Carlow between April 11 and 16.
Alongside the announcement, it was confirmed that the Irish national selection for the contest will be held on January 28 in the George Bernard Shaw Theatre at Visual. Ireland won the last edition of the contest represented by Daríona Ní Dhonnchadha, Ollie Hennessy, Ciarán Tourish and “Ní Thuigim”
What is the Pan Celtic Song Contest?
The Pan Celtic Song Contest has been held annually since 1971 and is part of the Pan Celtic Festival. The aim of the contest is to promote modern Celtic languages and cultures from the six Celtic nations of:
- Brittany
- Cornwall
- Ireland
- Isle of Man
- Scotland
- Wales
Wales is the most successful nation at the competition having won the event a total of 15 times. In contrast, the Isle of Man has won the event only once in 2014.
