RTVE has confirmed that it will reveal details of the selection of its representative for Junior Eurovision 2022 on July 19.
The Spanish public broadcaster has confirmed to ESCplus that it will reveal more details of the participation of the nation in Junior Eurovision 2022 on July 19. July 19 is the day that RTVE will also be revealing the first details of Benidorm Fest, the Spanish national selection for the Eurovision Song Contest.
Earlier this month Head of Delegation Eva Mora confirmed that they had commenced their search for the Spanish representative, she explained that:
We want to bring a good proposal, we want to bring a magnificent artist and we want to promote Junior Eurovision in Spain. This broadcaster has always taken Junior Eurovision very seriously and we want to continue maintaining that approach.
Regarding whether Spain could return to a national selection for the Junior Eurovision Song Contest, Ms. Mora confirmed that an internal selection would be held for Yerevan. However, RTVE remains open to a televised selection in future years.
Levi Díaz represented Spain in 2021 with “Reír” scoring a total of 77 points and finishing in 15th place. The result is the worst to date for Spain in the contest and is the first time they have finished outside of the top 5.
Junior Eurovision 2022
The Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2022 will take place in Yerevan, Armenia on December 11, following the country’s victory at the 2021 contest in Paris. This is the second time Armenia has won the contest, the first being in 2010. To date, the following countries have confirmed participation or expressed their interest:

- France
- Georgia
- Ireland
- Netherlands
- North Macedonia
- Poland
- Portugal
- Spain

Spain first took part in the contest in 2003 and participated every year between then and 2006. In 2004, María Isabel brought Spain their only victory so far with “Antes muerta que sencilla”. After an absence of 13 years, Spain returned to the contest in 2019 with “Marte” by Melani García. Spain had finished in the top 5 up until the 2021 contest when Spain finished in 15th place.
“Reír” was robbed! 🙁 In the meantime, I also look forward to Norway, Slovenia, and Sweden changing their minds while Germany and Italy confirm participation.
