Citi Zēni has given their first reactions to winning Supernova and representing Latvia at the Eurovision Song Contest 2022 in Turin.
Speaking to LTV following their victory in Supernova 2022, Citi Zēni has given their first reactions to representing their nation at Eurovision:
Victory is an honor, an opportunity and a responsibility at the same time! It is an honor to be nominated to represent Latvia, an opportunity to show music created in Latvia to a huge audience, a responsibility to bring Latvia to the Eurovision final. We feel ready for it, we hope to show it.
The group went on to say:
Our trump card is energy, youth and passion to show the world we are capable of. Although the song has already been successful outside Latvia, we do not plan to stop there.
Citi Zēni is formed of Jānis Pētersons (vocals), Dagnis Roziņš (vocals and saxophone), Reinis Višķeris (keyboards), Krišjānis Ozols (guitar), Roberts Memmēns (bass) and Toms Kagainis (drums). The group went viral ahead of Supernova for the opening line of their song “Instead of meat I eat veggies and pussy”. “Pussy” has since been removed from the live performances of the song and replaced with a pause.

Latvia debuted in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2000, being the last of the Baltic nations to join the contest. On their debut, Brainstorm finished in 3rd place with the song “My Star”. Latvia won the contest for the first and only time in 2002, with Marie N’s “I Wanna”. Latvia only participated in 2002 thanks to the withdrawal of Portugal from the contest, as Latvia’s poor result in 2001 had relegated them from the 2002 contest. Latvia struggled in the contest after 2002, failing to qualify for the final for six years between 2009 and 2014, they last made a final in 2016 with Justs and “Heartbeat”.
