SVT has completed the building of the stage of this year Melodifestivalen, showing the design for the first time.
With the construction of the stage at the Avicii Arena in Stockholm complete, SVT has now finally revealed the design of this year stage for Melodifestivalen 2022. In the past, the stage design has been revealed well ahead of the live shows and before any construction work would take.
This year SVT did not post any CGI rendering of the stage ahead of its completion but did live stream in real-time the whole build process on SVT Play, allowing fans to see the stage come together.
The full CGS rendering and photos of the finished stage can be seen in a post on social media from SVT. SVT has yet to provide any technical stats on the stage at this time.
Government guidelines currently restrict audiences to a capacity of 500 people which can be seen in the spacing of the seats in the area around the stage. In the past, no such gaps would have been left.
Following the news that the Melodifestivalen 2022 tour had been canceled and that all six shows would be held in Stockholm for the second year in a row, SVT has now announced the first Semi-final of Melodifestivalen 2022 will take place in the Avicii Arena in Stockholm.
It is still not known if the Avicii Arena will host the remaining 5 live shows, or if other venues in Stockholm will host. However, Eurovoix understands that ticket holders for the Final, which is due to take place on 12th March in Friends Arena have been advised that SVT remains hopeful that the show can go ahead as planned.
The current Covid-19 situation has meant that the usual Melodifestivalen tour of Sweden has been unable to proceed. The venues for the Melodifestivalen 2022 tour would have been as follows:
- Semi-Final 1: Malmö – Malmö Arena (February 5)
- Semi-Final 2: Gothenburg – Scandinavium (Feburary 12)
- Semi-Final 3: Linköping – Saab Arena (February 19)
- Semi-Final 4: Lidköping – Sparbanken Arena (February 26)
- Andra Chansen: Örnsköldsvik – Hägglunds Arena (March 5)
- Final: Stockholm – Friends Arena (March 12)
This year Oscar Zia will host the 2022 edition of Melodifestivalen. Oscar has taken part in Melodifestivalen on three occasions. In 2013, he was a backing singer for Behrang Miri on the song “Jalla Dansa Sawa”. In 2014, he participated for the first time as a solo artist and finished eighth in the final with “Yes We Can”. That same year, he was a member of the Swedish jury for Eurovision 2014. In 2016, he took part as a solo singer again with “Human” and finished second in the final. Last year, he hosted Semi-Final 2 of Melodifestivalen alongside Christer Björkman and Anis Don Demina.

Sweden in the Eurovision Song Contest
Sweden debuted in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1958 and has gone on to be one of the contest’s most successful countries. The country has won the contest six times, the most recent being in 2015. Sweden’s first victory came in 1974 when ABBA won the contest in Brighton with “Waterloo”. Since missing out on the final in 2010, Sweden has gone on to finish 3rd twice and has won the contest twice, only in 2013 did the country place outside of the top 10 in the final.
