The first semi-final of Melodi Grand Prix 2022 saw over 200,000 viewers less than the equivalent show in 2021.
Viewer interest in the first semi-final of Melodi Grand Prix 2022 was substantially lower than the equivalent show in 2021. On Saturday evening 555,000 viewers watched the show on NRK, down from 784,000 viewers for the same show in 2021.
The viewing audience dropped by 229,000 viewers compared to 2021, and was 117,000 viewers lower than 2020. The show was still the most-watched show on Norwegian television on Saturday evening, it also faced significant competition from shows on TV3 and TV2.
Frode won the first semi-final of Melodi Grand Prix with “Black Flowers”, he has secured himself a place in the final on February 19. The schedule for the remainder of Melodi Grand Prix 2022 is as follows:
- January 22 – Semi-Final Two
- January 29 – Semi-Final Three
- February 5 – Semi-Final Four
- February 12 – Second Chance Round
- February 19 – Grand Final
An audience will not be present for the semi-finals or the Second Chance Round due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The country has the dubious record of finishing last the most times, eleven in total, and have received nul points four times. Norway last won the contest in 2009 when Alexander Rybak broke all records with his song “Fairytale”. He scored 387 points in the final, receiving 16 sets of 12 points and scoring points from every country.
