RTVE, the Spanish national broadcaster, has released the 14 entries that will compete in Benidorm Fest 2022.
The competing artists and songs are:
- Azúcar Moreno – “Postureo” (Posing)
- Blanca Paloma – “Secreto del agua” (Secret of water)
- Chanel – “Slo mo”
- Gonzalo Hermida – “Quién lo diría” (Who would say it)
- Javiera Mena – “Culpa” (Fault)
- Luna Ki – “Voy a morir” (I’m going to die)
- Marta Sango -“Sigues en mi mente” (You stay in my mind)
- Rayden – “Calle de la llorería” (Crying street)
- Rigoberta Bandini – “Ay Mama” (O Mum)
- Sara Deop – “Make you say”
- Tanxugueiras – “Terra” (Land)
- Unique – “Mejores” (Better)
- Varry Brava – “Raffaella”
- Xeinn – “Eco” (Echo)

Azúcar Moreno represented Spain at Eurovision 1990, where they finished fifth with “Bandido”. Tanxugueiras’ song is mostly in Galician, with lines in Basque, Catalan, Asturian and Spanish. This is the first song in a Spanish national final to feature lyrics in the other co-official languages of Spain apart from Spanish. Should “Terra” be selected as the Spanish entry for Eurovision 2022, it will be the first Eurovision entry in history to feature lyrics in Galician, Basque and Asturian and the first since 2009 to feature lyrics in Catalan.
Luna Ki was also cleared to compete in Benidorm Fest 2022 earlier this week, after it was discovered that their entry was performed at a concert in Barcelona on September 4 2020.
The 14 songs will compete across two semi-finals on January 26 and 27, with four songs qualifying from each show to the Grand Final on January 29. The results in each show will be decided by jury voting (60% Spanish jurors and 40% international jurors) and public voting (50% televoting and 50% demoscopic jury). The winner will represent Spain in Eurovision 2022.

Spain in the Eurovision Song Contest
Spain debuted in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1961 and has competed annually since. Spain has won the contest on two occasions the first being in 1968 and the second time in 1969. 1969 is the only year where more than one song has won the contest. The 1969 contest saw a four-way tie between Spain, France, the United Kingdom and the Netherlands. Since 2000 Spain has only managed to finish in the top 10 on five occasions, the last time being in 2014 with Ruth Lorenzo. However, the country has finished 20th or below on ten occasions, the worst placement being 26th in 2017.
