🇪🇸 Spain: RTVE Signs Agreement For Four Editions of Benidorm Fest

RTVE revealed today that it has agreed with the Generalitat Valenciana to hold four editions of Benidorm Fest.

At today’s conference ‘Eurovisión, el festival que quieres’ RTVE revealed that a four-year agreement has been signed with the Generalitat Valenciana for Benidorm Fest. The agreement means that the contest which is set to be held for the first time in 2022 is due to be held until 2026. The agreement shows a long-term commitment to building the event into a widely known competition.

Regarding the format of the competition, it was also mentioned during the panel discussion that the full results of the contest may not be revealed. To make artists more comfortable to take part, it is planned that only the winner will be announced, with the remaining eleven acts results remaining secret.

The submissions window for Benidorm Fest is currently open. Interested singers and songwriters have until November 10 to submit their entries to RTVE.

Spain debuted in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1961 and has competed annually since. Spain has won the contest on two occasions the first being in 1968 and the second time in 1969. 1969 is the only year where more than one song has won the contest. The 1969 contest saw a four-way tie between Spain, France, the United Kingdom and the Netherlands. Since 2000 Spain has only managed to finish in the top 10 on five occasions, the last time being in 2014 with Ruth Lorenzo. However, the country has finished 20th or below on ten occasions, the worst placement being 26th in 2017.
