RTP, the Portuguese national broadcaster, has revealed the composers that will take part in Festival da Canção 2022.
The 20 competing composers in Festival da Canção 2022 are:

- The Mister Driver (public submission)
- Tiago Nogueira (Os Quatro e Meia) (public submission)
- Valas
Of the 20 composers, 16 were invited directly by RTP. The remaining four were chosen from a public submission window. Over 600 songs were submitted through the public submission window. The composers may sing their entry themselves or choose another artist to sing it. More details about Festival da Canção 2022 will be revealed soon.
Festival da Canção will once again be formed of two semi-finals, with five songs qualifying from each semi-final. The Grand Final will be held with ten competing entries, the winner will be determined by 50% televote and 50% jury voting.
The Black Mamba represented Portugal in Rotterdam with “Love Is On My Side”, the first ever Portuguese entry to be completely in English. They finished 12th in the Grand Final with 153 points, giving Portugal their second best result of the 21st century.

Portugal in the Eurovision Song Contest
Portugal debuted in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1964 represented by Antonio Calvario, the country finished last scoring nul points. Prior to 2016, the best result of Portugal was 6th place which came in 1996 when Lucia Moniz performed in Oslo. She scored 92 points, receiving the 12 points from both Norway and Cyprus. Since their debut, Portugal have missed a total of five contests. In 2017, Portugal produced a spectacular win when Salvador Sobral took home the crystal microphone with his song “Amar Pelos Dois.” The 2018 contest was held in Lisbon, Portugal for the first time.
