Germany is returning to a national selection, with the public set to select their entry for the first time since 2019.
Germany is set to organise a national selection to determine the nation’s representative at the Eurovision Song Contest 2022 in Turin, Italy. A call for songs has been launched for ‘Lied für Turin’ was launched on October 4, the show will take place in March of 2022.
A total of five songs will be selected to compete in the German selection for Eurovision. The winning entry will be chosen during a Eurovision day in March with radio listeners, online voters and the viewing public voting for their favourite song.
Any artist whether new to music or an established artist can now apply with their own song provided it has not been released at this time or not released before September 1, 2021. The song can be sung in any language and any genre. The artists do not need to hold German citizenship and acts can send in more than one song if they wish. Bayern 3 will be involved with the German selection alongside ARD radio stations Antenne Brandenburg, Bremen 4, HR 3, MDR Jump, NDR 2, SR 1, SWR 3 and WDR 2. The stations will be represented by five musical experts who will be part of the Eurovision Expert Jury that will select the five competing entries alongside the German Head of Delegation.
Germany finished 25th in the final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2021, finishing second last for the second time in a row. Jendrik, the country’s representative receives 3 points from the juries with the song “I Don’t Feel Hate”, and zero points from the televoting.

Germany was one of seven countries to participate in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1956. The country has taken part in every contest since then, apart from in 1996 when they failed to make it through the qualifying round. To date Germany has won the contest twice, the first time being in 1982 when Nicole sang “Ein Bisschen Frieden” in Harrogate, which later became a global hit. Germany didn’t win again until 2010 when Lena sang “Satellite” in Oslo. She received 9 sets of 12 points, scoring 246 points overall.
