A member of the Icelandic delegation has tested positive for COVID-19, the delegation will no longer attend the Opening Ceremony.
A statement reads:
During a routine test on Sunday 16 May, a member of the Icelandic delegation tested positive for COVID-19.
In accordance with our strict health and safety protocol this person has now gone into isolation and as a precautionary measure, the other members of their delegation will also now undergo a PCR test and self-isolate.
Unfortunately, this means that the Icelandic delegation will now not attend the Turquoise Carpet event in person this afternoon (Sunday 16 May).
We will have further updates in due course and send our best wishes to the whole delegation.
The Icelandic delegation has spoken to MBL.is and has confirmed that the person who has tested positive is not a member of Daði og Gagnamagnið.
According to the Health and Safety rules for the contest, if you are potentially exposed to COVID-19 you go into quarantine. They must remain in quarantine for 5 days and after 5 days can have a PCR test, if this test is negative they will be allowed out of quarantine.

Iceland is the second delegation to see a positive test for COVID-19 during this weekend. Yesterday the EBU confirmed that a member of the Polish delegation had tested positive and as a result, Poland is currently self-isolating.
In the event that a country is unable to perform in a live show of the Eurovision Song Contest 2021, the delegation is given a choice of which performance should be broadcast in their place. They can either use their live-on-tape performance which was recorded in March or the recording of their second rehearsal.
