🇮🇪 Ireland: Junior Eurovision Éire Filming Underway in Dublin

Filming has commenced in Ireland for the nations selection for Junior Eurovision 2021, Junior Eurovision Éire.

In Dublin filming has commenced at the RTÉ studios for the Irish national selection for the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2021. Ireland’s Eurovision 2003 representative Mickey Joe Harte posted an image today on social media from behind the scenes of the filming.

The image indicates that the judging panel for this years selection will be formed of permeant jury members:

  • Niamh Ní Chróinín
  • Fiachna Ó Braonáin

While Mickey Joe Harte is set to be one of a number of guest judges that will feature as the part of the selection process. Jedward also appear to be returning to the show having posted behind the scenes images last night.

Singers aged between 9 and 14 years had until March 19 to apply to take part in the Irish selection process. Ireland is set to return to the Junior Eurovision Song Contest, having taken a year out of the contest due to COVID-19.

Junior Eurovision 2021

The Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2021 will be held in France, who earned the right to host it after Valentina and her song “J’imagine” won the 2020 contest in Warsaw, Poland.

This year’s contest is due to take place on November 28. The host city and venue have not yet been announced. The following countries have confirmed their participation:

  • France
  • Georgia
  • Germany
  • Ireland
  • Netherlands
  • Poland
  • Portugal – Simão Oliveira
  • Russia

Ireland debuted in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest at the 2015 contest in Sofia, Bulgaria. The countries participation is organised by the Irish language broadcaster, TG4. At the 2015 contest in Bulgaria Ireland was represented by Aimee Banks with the song “Réalta na Mara”, she finished 12th in the final. The country’s best result came at the 2016 contest in Malta. Ireland was represented by Zena Donnelly with the song “Bríce ar Bhríce”. She finished 10th in the final scoring a total of 122 points, including receiving the countries first 12 points in the contest.
