🇵🇹 Portugal: Simão Oliveira Will Compete in Junior Eurovision 2021

RTP has confirmed that the winner of The Voice Kids Portugal Simão Oliveira, will represent Portugal at Junior Eurovision 2021.

The winner of The Voice Kids Portugal will be representing their country at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2021. RTP made the announcement just moments before Simão Oliveira was named the winner of the 2021 series last night. Portugal as a result is the first country to name their representative for the 2021 contest.

Portugal is returning to the Junior Eurovision Song Contest after a one year absence. The broadcaster did not compete in the 2020 contest due to the COVID-19 pandemic, they join Ireland in returning to the contest which will be held in France.

Junior Eurovision 2021

The Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2021 will be held in France, who earned the right to host it after Valentina and her song “J’imagine” won the 2020 contest in Warsaw, Poland.

This year’s contest is due to take place on November 28. The host city and venue have not yet been announced. The following countries have confirmed their participation:

  • France
  • Georgia
  • Germany
  • Ireland
  • Netherlands
  • Poland
  • Portugal – Simão Oliveira
  • Russia

Portugal debuted at the 2006 edition of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in Budapest, Romania. The country placed second-last that year and the year later, before withdrawing in 2008. They were not to return until 2017 where they were represented by Mariana Venancio, who placed 14th with her song “YouTuber”.
