Three more postcard locations have been announced for this year’s Eurovision Song Contest.
Schiphol Airport, a Nature reserve in Markermeer, and the APM terminal Maasvlakte II in Port of Rotterdam, have been revealed as locations for this years postcards. Schiphol Airport and the Port of Rotterdam will help show a different side of the Netherlands with a more industrial and modern look. It is still not yet known which countries will be introduced at these locations. So far only Australia has revealed which location their postcard will be set, with their postcard being filmed at the Sparta Stadion In Rotterdam.
This year due to travel restrictions most acts will be unable to film their postcards live as was the case for 2020, which saw some acts already get their shooting done before the ultimate cancellation of the show. So for this year’s postcard concept, the idea of artists are visually presented in a tiny house in a unique place in the Netherlands was selected. The postcards for 2021 are being produced by IDTV for the Eurovision Song Contest.
Around 400 unique locations from all across The Netherlands were submitted as possible locations for the postcards. Most of the submissions came from the South Holland and Drenthe provinces.
So far the known locations are as followed:
- South Holland lighthouse (Westhoofd), Ouddorp
- Evoluon, Eindhoven
- Frisian Nannewiid
- Beach at Vlissingen
- Kloeveniersdoelen in Middelburg
- Sparta Stadion In Rotterdam (Australia)
- Schiphol Airport
- Nature reserve in Markermeer
- PM terminal Maasvlakte II in Port of Rotterdam
In total 39 locations will be used, one for each act taking part in this year’s Contest.
The latest digital techniques mean that the acts do not need to be in the location physically. Each small home is decorated according to the story and the personality of the artist. This lets the views get to know each singer or group before they take to the stage.
Eurovision 2021
The Eurovision Song Contest 2021 will take place on May 18, 20 and 22 in Rotterdam. A total of 41 countries will take part in the Eurovision Song Contest 2021 in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. Eurovision 2020 was due to be held in Rotterdam after Duncan Laurence gave the Netherlands their first victory since 1975 with the song “Arcade”. After the cancelation of the 2020 contest, it was decided that Rotterdam would host the 2021 contest instead.
