The final of Melodi Grand Prix 2021 saw the show bring in its largest audience since the 2017 final.

1,110,000 viewers watched the final of Melodi Grand Prix 2021 on NRK on Saturday evening, 1,082,000 million viewers watched NRK1 with a further 28,000 viewers watching the contest online. Overall the show had a market share of 67.1%.

The overall number of viewers is up 160,000 over 2020 and is the largest audience the show has seen since 2017. Stig Karlsen, the Head of Delegation for Norway commented:

Itโ€™s awesome.ย It shows that this is a party people have needed.ย In a somewhat heavy and tender time, this is a music festival that gathers people.

TIX will represent Norway at the Eurovision Song Contest 2021, he had been one of the favourites to win the contest since his first performance. TIX will perform in the second half of the first semi-final on May 18.

Norway debuted in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1960 and have won the contest three times โ€“ in 1985, 1995 and 2009. The country has the dubious record of finishing last the most times, eleven in total, and have received nul points four times. Norway last won the contest in 2009 when Alexander Rybak broke all records with his song โ€œFairytaleโ€. He scored 387 points in the final, receiving 16 sets of 12 points and scoring points from every country.
