The final of Cân i Gymru 2021 (Song for Wales 2021) is set to take place on Friday March 5 live from Cardiff.
Cân i Gymru 2021 is set to take place on March 5 as eight singers from across the country compete live from Cardiff. The show will be presented by Elin Fflur and Trystan Ellis-Morris with the winner taking home £5,000 and the title of Cân i Gymru 2021.
For the first time the Wales Millennium Centre in Cardiff is set to be the venue for the competition. Graeme Farrow, Artistic Director of Wales Millennium Centre, said:
“It is an honour and a pleasure to welcome S4C’s iconic Cân i Gymru to Wales Millennium Centre this year – perhaps this year especially.
“As the home for the arts in Wales, we’ve made it our mission to put the great wealth of talent in Wales, both established and undiscovered, onto our stages in front of huge audiences. Cân i Gymru has over 50 years’ experience of doing the very same, and I’m particularly pleased that during such a difficult time for artists, we’re able to work together to present this wonderful celebration of song writing.”
Elen Rhys, S4C’s Entertainment Commissioner, added:
“S4C is delighted that one of our major competitions can take place this year on our country’s main stage. Cân i Gymru is an important part of S4C’s schedule every year and to showcase the competition on the famous Donald Gordon Theatre stage is very special – certainly the perfect duo!”
Cân i Gymru has been held since 1969 and has taken place every year since excluding 1973. Last year the 50th edition of the competition which translates as ‘Song for Wales’ was won by Elidyr Glyn with the song “Fel Hyn ‘da Ni Fod”.
