ESC Kompakt reports that the German selection process evolved for the 2021 contest to enable a more informed selection of singer and song.
The acts competing in the German selection for Eurovision 2021 were given the opportunity to showcase there on stage abilities in this years selection compared to previous years. Since the internal selection process was introduced by NDR, acts were limited in their final performances to relatively static performance with two camera positions and little movement in their performance. However for 2021 this has changed.
For the 2021 selection artists were given the opportunity to better showcase their on stage abilities. This years performances in the selections were filmed on stage with lighting and multiple cameras. They were also allowed to be joined by dancers, backing singers and props. The change in the rules for the videos means that the jurors were better able to assess both song and stage presence of artists.
The act that will represent Germany at the Eurovision Song Contest 2021 in Rotterdam, Netherlands has been chosen. Head of Delegation, Ms Wolfsladt stated on ESC Update that the date of the reveal of the German representative has not yet been decided.

Germany was one of seven countries to participate in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1956. The country has taken part in every contest since then, apart from in 1996 when they failed to make it through the qualifying round. To date Germany has won the contest twice, the first time being in 1982 when Nicole sang “Ein Bisschen Frieden” in Harrogate, which later became a global hit. Germany didn’t win again until 2010, when Lena sang “Satellite” in Oslo. She received 9 sets of 12 points, scoring 236 points overall.
