The Roop have cancelled their promotional tour and filming of their Eurovision postcard in the Netherlands due to coronavirus.
Lithuania’s entrants for Eurovision 2020 have announced the cancellation of their appearance at preview parties ahead of the contest. The Roop will also not be travelling to the Netherlands to film their postcard, as part of their response to the coronavirus. The lead of the group said that:
We do not want to risk our own or the public’s health. We follow the Government’s recommendations to avoid overseas travel. We believe prudence is the key to getting everyone back to normal,
Audrius Giržadas the Head of Delegation for Lithuania added:
It is a pity that we have to postpone the long-planned travel of our representatives, but such a decision is the only right step in this case. In the fight against the coronavirus pandemic, we have to be responsible and to avoid risks and visits to foreign countries as much as possible
Lithuania debuted in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1994, however on their debut they finished in last place with nul points. Lithuania didn’t return to the contest until 1999 when Aiste finished 20th with the song “Strazdas”. Lithuania’s best result came in 2006 when LT United performed “We Are The Winners”; they finished 6th in the final with a total of 162 points. Lithuania’s only other top 10 finish came in 2016 when Donny Montell performed “I’ve Been Waiting For This Night” in Stockholm, he received 12 points from the public in Ireland, Norway & United Kingdom.
