The next entry in our “Who Is” series for Junior Eurovision 2019 is Russia, who will be represented by Tatyana Mezhentseva and Denberel Oorzhak.
Tatyana Mezhentseva was born on December 9 2009 in Moscow. She has been singing since the age of 4. Besides singing, Tatyana also plays piano and flute, dances and does aerial gymnastics.
Denberel Oorzhak was born on June 3 2006 in Ak-Dovurak in the Republic of Tuva in southern Russia. He is the winner of You Are Super! on NTV. In early 2019, Denberel moved to Kyzyl, the capital of the Republic of Tuva, to study at a music studio.
Tatyana and Denberel met each at this year’s Children’s New Wave Contest, which Denberel won. The two quickly became friends and decided to enter the Russian Junior Eurovision selection.
Tatyana and Denberel were selected to represent Russia in this year’s Junior Eurovision Song Contest after beating ten other acts in the Russian national final in September in Moscow. They will sing “Vremya dlya nas” (A Time For Us), a song about the present generation of young people and its approach to life. Tatyana and Denberel are the only non-solo artists taking part in this year’s contest.
Russia in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest
Russia debuted in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in 2005 and has participated in the contest every year since. Russia won the contest for the first time in 2006 when they were represented by the Tolmachevy Twins with the song “Vesenniy jazz”, who scored a total of 154 points. Russia has never finished outside of the top 10 in their time at the contest, and have finished second twice, fourth four times and fifth once. At the 2017 contest in Georgia, Russia won the contest for a second time represented by Polina Bogusevich and “Wings”.
