SBV Vitesse has stated that it will move out of the GelreDome, should Arnhem be chosen to host Eurovision 2020.
The football club SBV Vitesse, which is based at the GelreDome has agreed to move out of its home ground should Arnhem be selected to host Eurovision 2020. The club which had previously been hesitant to move out of the stadium for the contest, has agreed that it will play its final three matches next season in a temporary stadium, should Arhem host Eurovision.
The Director General of the Club stated:
Our first reaction was: of course we are not going to play outside of GelreDome. On the other hand, we also realize that it is a unique and one-off opportunity that comes to pass for our city and our region. That is why we have entered into discussions. Our starting point has been very clear from the start: we are only prepared under certain conditions to agree.
If it is going to be Arnhem, we have to get to grips with the scenario of the temporary stadium. The province, municipality of Arnhem and Vitesse have worked together in a particularly constructive and intensive manner, which will undoubtedly continue to bear fruit in the future.
SBV Vitesse not agreeing to move out of its home stadium, had been the biggest threat to Arnhem’s bid to host Eurovision 2020. The agreement with the club is similar to that of Fortuna Dusseldorf, who also moved out of their home stadium for the 2011 Eurovision Song Contest.
