“Soldi” This Years Hit Heading into Eurovision Week

“Soldi”, the Italian entry by Mahmood, is this years TV and Radio hit heading into next weeks Eurovision Song Contest, as shown by data provided by BMAT.

Eurovoix has teamed up with BMAT to bring you a look behind which entries are gaining the most interest across the continent. BMAT uses audio fingerprinting technology to record the number of television and radio plays that each of the competing Eurovision 2019 entries receives. These plays are then turned into a score, giving an indication of potential televote interest across Europe and Australia.

The below statistics look at the number of plays that each of this years songs have received outside of their own nation:

  1. Italy – Mahmood – Soldi – 3,002
  2. Sweden – John Lundvik – Too Late for Love – 733
  3. Netherlands – Duncan Laurence – Arcade – 612
  4. Estonia – Victor Crone – Storm – 610
  5. France – Bilal Hassani – Roi – 513
  6. Switzerland – Luca Hanni – She Got Me – 475
  7. Malta – Michela Pace – Chameleon – 463
  8. Cyprus – Tamta – Replay – 435
  9. Spain – Miki – La venda – 274
  10. Russia – Sergey Lazarev – Scream – 258

Italy has over 4 times the number of plays on radio and television than second placed Sweden. Mahmood has accumulated just under 17,000 plays in Italy alone. The only nation close to rivalling the same level of home interest in Spain with 4,563 plays.

The top five markets for each of the top ten songs are:

  4. Estonia – Sweden (448), Lithuania (79), Finland (28), Malta (12) & Spain (10)
  5. France – Spain (116), Romania (69), Moldova (65), Israel (42) & Belgium (30)
  6. Switzerland – Spain (120), Germany (71), Lithuania (63), Norway (43) & Belgium (31)
  7. Malta – Spain (251), Sweden (75), Lithuania (64), Azerbaijan (23) & Norway (8)
  8. Cyprus – Greece (175), Spain (42), Portugal (39), Israel (35) & Malta (13)
  9. Spain – Lithuania (103), Azerbaijan (57), Serbia (23), Sweden (15) & Malta (15)

Of note is that while the Netherlands is the bookmakers favourite to win come May 18, it has yet to travel significantly across the airwaves outside of the Netherlands. In contrast Italy has over 100 plays on radio and television in eight nations.
