Security checks by the Israeli police have resumed at Expo Tel Aviv, meaning that preparations for the Eurovision Song Contest 2019 are back on track.
Zivit Davidovitch, Executive Producer of Eurovision 2019, has confirmed that security checks are again taking place at Expo Tel Aviv. K9 checks by the Israeli police on the equipment required for the contest resumed this morning, meaning that preparations for the show in May are back on track.
On Monday evening the Prime Ministers office agreed to finance part of the cost of security. Yoav Horowitz, the Deputy Minister at the Prime Ministers Office agreed that the office will cover the costs of security that the Ministry of Tourism was refusing to cover.
The Ministry of Tourism had on Monday evening stated that it would not pay its 1.2 million NIS contribution towards the costs of security for the Eurovision Song Contest. As a result of the decision of the Ministry of Tourism, the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Communications also withheld paying there share of the costs.
The decision of the Ministry to withhold funds has meant that from Sunday evening the required security checks at the venue for the contest were not taking place. Equipment that has turned up for the construction of the stage for Eurovision 2019 has been unable to undergo the required K9 checks to ensure that the contest is a secure space.
